Chris opens a presentation to GE/Toshiba with an inspirational poem about taking risks and having a positive attitude towards work and towards life, in general. Chris explains how "if you're not afraid to face the music, you may one day lead the band".
Chris uses the classic children's story, "The Little Engine That Could", to introduce the concept of positive "self-talk" and its benefits as they relate to mood, self-esteem, and performance. In this particular presentation, Chris addresses the benefits of positive "self-talk" and how it can facilitate dealng with change. He also touches on using opportunity thinking versus obstacle thinking when presented with challenges in and outside of the workplace.
Chris discusses the analogy of how to catch a crab to illustrate how the negative attitudes of others can keep a person from achieving his or her goals. The concept of "out of the bucket" behavior emphasizes that those who wish to make change must overcome the doubts of others and be willing to take a chance. Chris also uses a visual example which portrays many of the world's modern-day self-leaders and professes that "the people who change the world are the ones crazy enough to do it".
